7 years in the making, Eric Allen's bittersweet debut solo album “Blurred Direction” is slighted for release early fall, 2009. Eric Allen's poignant and wistful song writing cries out over his powerful but melodic acoustic guitar stylings kindling a lifetime’s worth of lovesick nights, second guessed regrets and fleeting happiness. “My song writing is focused more on capturing an emotion and sharing a piece of my journey through life”. “It’s not intentional, I just write what I feel.”
Inspired by the emotionally raw songs of Toad the Wet Sprocket, Matchbox 20 and Glen Phillips, Allen proudly wears his emotions on his sleeve. “Not Enough”, “Undone” and “Filtering” help set the album’s dark tone while songs like “Reset”, “Yesterdays Home”, and “Feeling More” give listeners a more eclectic and upbeat side to the record.
Recorded independently from 2008-09 at the Mackinaw Harvest Studios in Grand Rapids, Michigan with known producer Michael Crittenden (lead singer of Troll for Trout), "Blurred Direction" is a thought out manifestation of what could have been, what happened and what should have never. One man's plight to live and let live, flourish or forget, but never stop loving, as someday we all might get it right. “While in the studio, myself along with guitarist Scott Ware were continuously trying out possible material for the album. Playing new songs gives me a break from the challenge of keeping fresh the old songs accumulated over the years. I’m proud of this record, but I’ve come a long way as a songwriter and performer since I wrote most of them. The new songs are more personal and intense than before. I’m looking forward to showing people what I can do now.”
